ThermoArt 2/13/26 Day Adventure

Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old

90 US dollars
South 4th Avenue

What are we exploring?

Today we explore how temperature—heat and cold—inspires human creativity and innovation. Think: thermal-inspired art, hot-and-cold movement games, and imaginative stories of people and ideas forged in fire or shaped by snow. This theme bridges science, emotion, and artistic exploration through the lens of heat, chill, and everything in between. "Heat Map Masterpieces": Create expressive art inspired by thermal images or temperature gradients. Use warm and cool color palettes to show different states of energy or emotion. What does it look like when something is heating up, cooling down, or in perfect balance? "Frozen & Fired Movement": A dance and movement session where campers explore the qualities of ice (still, sharp, slow) and fire (fast, flickering, intense). Alternating between chilly and fiery music, campers explore contrast, transitions, and transformation. "Hot & Cold Characters": Create imaginative characters or creatures based on thermal extremes—ice beings, sun spirits, volcanic inventors, or frozen philosophers. Act out short scenes or monologues exploring how these characters adapt, evolve, or spark change in their world. "Melting Point Masks": Design half-cold, half-hot wearable art (masks or headpieces) representing two emotional or creative states—what heats you up? What cools you down? Foil, tissue paper, and color reflect texture and temperature. Campers reflect on how the forces of heat and cold shape not only the natural world—but also ideas, emotions, and innovation. Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
