Super Heroes 2/17/26 Day Adventure
Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old
What are we exploring?
Today we celebrate heroes—both real and imagined. From comic book legends to everyday champions, we explore what it means to stand up, speak out, and shine bright. Think: costume design, bold movement, heroic storytelling, and discovering the power that already lives inside each of us. "Design Your Inner Hero": Campers create original superhero characters based on their own unique strengths. Include: hero name, symbol, power, origin story, and costume sketches. What’s your superpower in real life? (Kindness? Listening? Helping others?) "Power Poses & Hero Moves": A movement-based workshop where campers explore bold, expressive shapes and high-energy sequences inspired by strength, speed, and flight. Includes a warm-up of “power poses” to boost confidence and presence. Create a team “super move” or dance combo. "Everyday Hero Theater": Improv and storytelling activity where campers act out scenes of real-life heroism—standing up for a friend, helping someone in need, or showing bravery in a small way. Mix humor and heart: What does a quiet superhero do? What about a clumsy one? "Cape & Mask Workshop": Create wearable superhero capes that represent each camper’s super identity. Materials: felt, cardstock, paint, fabric, stickers, metallics. Optional: Add a meaningful symbol or motto. "The Comic Strip Crusader": Create a short comic strip with original characters encountering and overcoming a problem. Fortitude and silliness are both important! Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
