Shared Humanity 1/19/26 Day Adventure
Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old
What are we exploring?
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we explore the infinite wonder of our shared humanity—what connects us, what makes us unique, and how we can co-create a more just and beautiful world. Think: collaborative art, expressive movement, and stories of courage, compassion, community and fun. "Mirrors & Windows": Create layered self-portraits that reflect both who we are (mirrors) and what we can learn from others (windows). Include symbolic drawings, words, and collage to show both inner identity and outer connection. What makes you, you? What connects you to others? "Heartbeat Dance": A movement session focused on rhythm and unity. Start with listening to your own heartbeat, then connect with others through synchronized movement and group rhythm games. "The Dream Continues": Write a short story about your DREAM for a better tomorrow. What's the message you want to share with the world? "Threads of Us" Collaborative Weaving: Each camper adds a strip of fabric, ribbon, or paper to a shared weaving, with words or symbols that represent something they value about themselves or humanity. Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
