What are we exploring?

Led by VIM VIGOR DANCE COMPANY, this week long intensive immerses rising artists in movement practices ranging from floorwork, contemporary modern, partnering, improvisation, and composition. We welcome a range of experience and provide multiple access points to these practices. This is an intermediate to advanced program, so we ask that interested participants have some previous dance experience in any modality. Each day will open with somatic exercises and a conditioning warm up, to nurture pre-professional dancers through anatomically sound pathways that strengthen their bodies, while illuminating form and function. Dancers will then progress into a day of contemporary movement sessions building confidence and skill in complex coordinations that traverse pathways into and out of the ground, rhythmic action that links upper and lower body connectivity, fluid transitional movement to improve spatial awareness and flow, contemporary partnering skills, creative and exploratory improvisation play, as well as support in each artist making interpretive, artistic choices within phrasework. Led by the Artistic Leadership and Company Members of VIM VIGOR, as well as U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, this intensive will invite rising artists into a professional training experience that will introduce them to new ways of exploring contemporary movement practices, build their skill sets, nurture their artistry, and support their artistic community.
