Pollinating Ideas 6/12/26 DayAdventure
Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old
What are we exploring?
Today we pollinate our wild ideas! Inspired by the hidden art of pollination, we’ll explore the vital work of insects, the beauty of blooming, and the power of creative collaboration. Think: insect-inspired dance, flower-making, nature theater, and ideas that spread and grow like seeds on the wind. "Bloom Builders" Flower Art: Create 3D paper or mixed-media flowers with hidden messages or ideas "pollenated" inside them. Add textures, patterns, and even attach poems or "seeds of thought" to share. If you were a flower, what would you offer the world? What idea would you share? "Buzz, Fly, Pollinate!" Movement Workshop: Insect-inspired movement session: flap, buzz, hover, and dart like bees, butterflies, beetles, and bats! Explore movement qualities like light vs. grounded, group swarming, and cross-pollination through interaction. A group “pollination pattern” dance—how ideas travel from one camper to another! "The Secret Life of Pollinators" Nature Play: Kids collaborate to write and perform short scenes or skits about the world of pollinators—dramatic, silly, or poetic. Possible characters: a sassy hummingbird, a confused flower, a sleepy bat, or a bee with stage fright! "Insect Antennae Crowns" Create antennae of your own design. Sense the world in new silly and wonderful ways. "Idea Seed Pods" Mixed Media Craft: Create seed pod sculptures or pouches from paper, felt, or natural materials. Inside, campers place a written “idea seed”—something they want to share, grow, or give to others. What’s one idea you’d like to plant in the world? Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
