Earth Voices Aug 24-28, 2026 CAMP
Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old
What are we exploring?
Today, we become Earth-listeners and Earth-speakers—artists, dancers, and storytellers who stand up for the planet. Inspired by the perspective of environmental stewards and activists, we’ll explore how to express care for our ecosystems, imagine a thriving future, and give voice to the natural world. Think: recycled art, eco-inspired movement, nature poetry, and calls to action through creativity. "ReClaimed Creations" Eco-Art Workshop: Campers create expressive sculptures, wearable pieces, or assemblages using recycled materials and natural objects. What might the Earth want us to see in what we throw away? "Move Like the Earth Moves" Movement Workshop: Embody the rhythms of the natural world—earthquakes, roots spreading, ocean waves, animal migrations, growing forests. Explore slow vs. fast, collective movement (flocks, herds, ecosystems), and gestures of care and protection. "Letters from the Land" Writing Circle: Campers choose an element of nature (a tree, river, mountain, bee, etc.) and write a letter from its perspective. What do you wish humans knew? What’s your favorite season? What are you afraid of? Share aloud or turn into mini performances or shadow plays. "What the World Could Be" Vision Collage: Create collaborative or individual collages imagining a future Earth shaped by care, innovation, and harmony. Magazines, drawings, and words build visual dreams of clean oceans, green cities, thriving wildlife, or new inventions that help the planet. Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
