What are we exploring?

Day four of five, adding up to a week of winter revelry with creative brains and bodies in action! Join us for one day or all five! Each day we will step into the magic of winter and the sparkling promise of a new year—a time of shimmering snow, majestic icy power, kid sized goals for new year's resolutions, and bold new beginnings. Think: snowflake stories, shimmering art, reflective movement, and festive creativity. This theme honors the beauty of endings, the courage to begin again, and the wonder that lives in both. "Frost & Fireworks": Create a two-part visual piece: one half representing the quiet, intense energy of winter (e.g., snowy textures, icy blues), and the other bursting with New Year celebration (e.g., golds, fireworks, bold patterns). "Snowglobe Scenes": Think: snowflake stories, shimmering art, reflective movement, and festive creativity. "Snowglobe Scenes": Each camper creates a short story or scene that takes place inside a magical snowglobe—what memory, hope, or moment is frozen inside? "Shakespeare inspired Prologues": Together we will create short monologues about our hopes and dreams for the New Year. "Snowfall Stories": Theater activity where each camper becomes a unique snowflake with a story to tell. What journey do they take from the sky to the earth? Who or what do they meet along the way? "Frozen Flow" Movement: Explore dance inspired by melting ice, swirling wind, and cozy hibernation. Embody softness, stillness, and sudden gusts of energy. "Crystal Creatures" Puppets: Create magical winter creatures (e.g., snow spirits, frost foxes, ice owls) using translucent and textured materials. Puppets can express emotions through light and shadow. Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
