Animal Action 2/16/26 Day Adventure
Arts Programming 8:45am-5pm for kids aged 6-11 years old
What are we exploring?
Today we awaken our wild sides and explore the ancient and magical connection between humans and animals. Think: creature-inspired dance, symbolic storytelling, and art that channels the wisdom, energy, and mystery of the animal world. From slinking shadows to soaring spirits, we’ll discover the magic in movement, instincts, and transformation. Activities: "Spirit Creature Collage": Campers create mixed-media collages of their personal animal guide—real or imaginary—using symbolism, texture, and color to express what that animal represents (courage, curiosity, quiet wisdom, etc.). If you could have an animal guide or protector, who would it be—and why? "Wild Moves" Dance Jam: Movement improv session where campers explore how different animals move—and what those movements feel like emotionally. Includes: big group animal call-and-response, slow-motion predator/prey games, and blending movements (e.g. “What does it feel like to dance like a fox with butterfly wings?”). "The Animal Inside" Theater Game: Campers choose an animal that represents a hidden part of themselves—then act out a short scene with friends where that animal comes to life to help them solve a problem or go on a journey. Emphasis on empathy, transformation, and storytelling power. "Magical Tales about Tails": Create wearable animal tails—real or magical—that amplify the movement and wildness of the body. Then make up a story about a creature or animal that uses its tail to save the world. Materials: fabric, yarn, natural elements. Arts Assembly provides a creative and active space for kids to explore the arts on days that A2 public schools are out. Kids spend the day playfully exploring movement, theater, music and the visual arts. We love collaborative exploration, problem solving, and innovative solutions inspired by creativity. Led by U-M Professors in the Performing Arts, local teachers and artists, Arts Assembly is your downtown arts resource for the whole family.
